Result:

Rook vs 1 Pawn

Dalam fasa Rook ending, kebiasannya Rook akan dapat mengatasi 1 pawn dengan mudah, melainkan dalam situasi pawn yang sudah terlalu hampir dengan petak promotion (8th rank) dan dilindungi oleh kingnya.

Perhatikan contoh berikut:

Dalam rajah 1 di atas, pawn c3 sudah terlalu hampir dengan petak queening di c1. Pawn c3 juga mendapat perlindungan dari King hitam di d3. King putih berada dalam keadaan yang tidak bagus kerana King itu tidak mampu menyerang pawn c3 ataupun mengawal queening square di c1.

Maka, dalam situasi dalam rajah 1, pawn c3 akan dapat ditolak sehingga ke petak c1 dengan bantuan King hitam. Maka, putih tiada pilihan lain melainkan melakukan check kepada king hitam. Keputusannya ialah draw.

Situasi ini perlu difahami kerana ia mampu memberikan idea kepada kita untuk digunakan bagi mencari draw, ketika memiliki 1 pawn berhadapan dengan 1 rook.

DATE: 6th October 2019 (Sunday)

VENUE: Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH), Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Seri Iskandar, Perak 

CATEGORY: A) Open; B) Under 12-year-old

SYSTEM OF PLAY: 7 rounds, Swiss System, 2 pairings: Open and U-12. For the pairings, Swiss Manager program will be used. 

TIME CONTROL: 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment per move 

TIE-BREAKS: Direct Encounter, Buchholz Cut 1, Buchholz, Sonneborn-Berger
