Kejohanan yang berlangsung di Tbilisi, Georgia bermula pada 2 hingga 28 September masih mengekalkan format kalah-mati (knock-out). Seramai 128 pemain layak untuk mengambil bahagian yang kebanyakannya terdiri dari GM terkemuka dari seluruh dunia termasuk juara dunia terkini iaitu GM Magnus Carlsen dan bekas juara dunia iaitu GM Vladimir Kramnik dan GM Viswanathan Anand. Pada tahun ini, salah seorang dari 128 pemain tersebut ialah pemain kebangsaan Malaysia iaitu IM Yeoh Li Tian!

TEAM COMPOSITION: 4 Players without reserve player. Average national rating for a team should NOT exceed 1900 national rating. Unrated player will be considered as 1600 rating for calculation purpose.

SYSTEM OF PLAY: 7 rounds, Swiss System

TIME CONTROL: 45 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move. All moves must be recorded.

Dalam kedudukan di atas, pemain hitam memiliki kelebihan yang boleh membawa kemenangan. Pemain hitam menggerakkan Rook untuk makan pawn a4. Selepas menekan jamnya, Rook pemain hitam telah terjatuh. Pemain hitam telah diisytiharkan kalah kerana Rook beliau terjatuh selepas beliau menekan jam. Situasi di atas telah berlaku dalam kejohanan catur di negara kita dan telah dimasukkan dalam FIDE Arbiter Magazine No. 3 August 2016.

1) Apakah yang arbiter perlu lakukan? Adakah kes ini termasuk di bawah hukuman "illegal move"?

Berdasarkan FIDE Laws of Chess versi terkini, kes ini telah diletakkan di bawah satu peraturan yang jelas berkaitan "displaces piece(s)", iaitu:

"7.4.1 If a player displaces one or more pieces, he shall re-establish the correct position in his own time."

Pemain yang telah menjatuhkan satu atau lebih buah catur hendaklah membetulkan semula buah catur tersebut pada petak yang betul dengan menggunakan masanya sendiri.
